Akihabara Open Walk

秋葉原オープンウォーク · 不特定参加型

A three-hour deep-dive into Tokyo's otaku capital with a guide who has watched 800+ anime titles — walked together with other anime fans who booked the same slot. Skip the tourist stops: hidden stores, secret arcades, and back-alley cafés that locals actually use.

Overview

Akihabara is a sensory overload — bright lights, vertical streets, floors of figures stacked to the ceiling, arcades humming under neon. It's easy to get lost, and easier to miss the best parts. On this tour, you won't.

This is an open-join tour: you book a place per person and walk with whoever else signed up for the same slot — often solo travellers, couples, and small groups of friends. The route and timing are set so the group stays together, which means the day isn't rebuilt around one person's shopping list.

The hunt, though, is still personal. Tell the guide what you're looking for and you'll get recommendations meant for you specifically: which shop, which floor, what it should cost — either during the walk or sent to you after the tour ends. If you'd rather have the guide to yourselves, book the Akihabara Private Tour instead.

Typical itinerary

Kept to a steady timing so the group moves together:

0:00 — Meet
Meet at Akihabara Station
Quick introductions, a look at what everyone came for, and a plan for the three hours ahead.
0:10 — Flagship floors
Big-name stores done right
Mandarake, Kotobukiya, Animate, Surugaya — with a guide who knows which floor matters for what, not just the front entrance.
0:50 — Backstreets
Hidden shops & specialty stores
The real gems are on the 3rd or 5th floor of buildings you'd walk right past. Rare finds, doujinshi stores, niche figure specialists.
1:40 — Arcade break
Crane games & rhythm games
The secret UFO catcher spots with actually winnable setups, plus the rhythm-game floors if that's your thing.
2:20 — Café stop
Maid café, themed café, or coffee break
Optional. If the group wants the maid café experience, we'll walk you through the etiquette first. Quiet specialty cafés are an option too.
3:00 — Wrap-up
Q&A and farewell
Where to go solo afterwards, where to eat nearby, how to get back — plus your personal shop list. Souvenir and photo data follow by email.

Moments from past tours

Good to know

Q.Can I join on my own?
Yes — solo guests are a big part of why this tour is open-join. You'll be walking with other anime fans, and the guide keeps the group talking.
Q.Who else will be on the tour?
Whoever booked the same slot. Groups stay small enough that nobody gets lost in a crowd and everyone's questions still get answered.
Q.Can I send my wishlist in advance?
Please do. The route stays the same, but the guide will scout your items beforehand, point you to the right shop and floor on the day, and send you a personal list afterwards for anything we couldn't reach in three hours.
Q.How is this different from the private tour?
Same neighbourhood, same guide. Here you pay per person and share the walk. On the Akihabara Private Tour the guide is yours alone at ¥60,000 per group (1–4 guests), and the day is planned around your group.
Q.Is there a group for past guests?
A Discord group is in the works — a place to share finds, ask about shops, and hear about upcoming events. Ask us about it when you book.
Q.What if it rains?
Most of Akihabara is indoors or covered. Light rain doesn't stop us — Tokyo is a rain-or-shine city. For heavy weather, we can move you to another date.
Q.How do I pay?
We send payment instructions once your place is confirmed. Usually bank transfer, PayPal, or cash on the day — your choice.
